Basically Mortensen exaggerated his original story, lied about being kidnapped by the Taliban, and misused funding.
What was so compelling about Mortenson and his story that it inspired donors, for school children to Pres. He was fooled by Greg Mortenson. I rarely have such regard for a man; who values the education of women, and builds bridges and schools. When Mortensen was asked to respond to Krakauer’s allegations, he couldn’t really do it. It gave people hope and opened some eyes to the problems of the world.
